Melia- Cozumel, Mexico -Rollie Haugen

MELIA COZUMEL

This resort is on the northwest side of the island about 10 minutes by taxi from San Miguel.  A strong selling point is that it is on a very long stretch of white sand beach. The property is long and narrow situated between the road and the ocean so all rooms are relatively close to the water. I observed a minimum of traffic noise as foliage provides a barrier.  When entering the reception area, one is greeted with a view of the ocean which is just steps away.

An 18 hole Par 72 Jack Nicklaus designed public golf course is across the street. Golf is complimentary with the 'M' class suites. Carts are mandatory and additional at $30/cart/person.

Accommodations:

89 rooms with terrace/balcony and either garden or pool view

46 Junior Suites offering a breathtaking view of the crystal clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea

12 Paradise Suites for honeymooners with Whirlpool

1 Presidential Suite overlooking the ocean Bathrooms of marble with shower and bathtub Air-conditioning Satellite TV Direct dial telephone Electronic safe deposit box The upper 2 floors of the tower building are the 'M' class and have spectacular ocean views.

Paradise Suites are on the main level with a walk out patio steps from the ocean. Jacuzzi on the patio.

Garden view rooms are in a a separate 3 level building at the back of the property and overlook the activity pool and gated end. It should be noted that the third floor rooms do have an ocean view.

The rooms were all of moderate size and decor. The bathrooms are small and the design dated and this could be a negative for clients that want a large modern bathroom.

The adult pool with swim up bar is ocean side. Small.

Small spa and fitness center.

What appealed to me was the compactness of the resort and the proximity to the water.
